Ship Bottom Store is almost completed!

Ship Bottom Store

It has been a long winter and we have been super busy with finishing plans for the new store. It looks like we are a little behind schedule (which can usually be expected), but the plan to be open for Memorial Day weekend is still very much a go. And with the complex scope of this project, it is an enormous feat to have this store built in one winter. The contractors are working hard to put the finishing touches on what will be a truly beautiful surf shop! We are excited to get in there and rolling! Hopefully we will see you soon…

Do your part to keep our island beautiful…

October 15 2007

With the upcoming summer months, we haver our tiny sliver of an island invaded by the masses. They come to enjoy the beauty of this island we seem to take for granted too often. Make sure you lead by example. Show respect for our island and beaches and in return you will teach others to do the same. Pick up after yourself and others. If you are still smoking, don’t just toss your butt, put it out in an ashtray or trash can. We will eventually be swimming and surfing with those dirty butts if you don’t. If you see someone littering, don’t be disrespectful, but be sure to politely ask they take care of their trash. Always leave the beach cleaner then when you found it. A little goes a long way. We have one of the most gorgeous stretches of beach found anywhere in the world (Seriously). Let’s keep it that way!

We have a beach cleanup planned with our friends from Ocean Minded this summer in conjunction with the Southern High School senior service day. Ocean Minded is a growing sandal and environmentally conscious company from San Clemente, CA. Our good friend Gary Ward has etched out his niche in the surfing industry through his sincere concern for the environment, with special attention to our beaches and coastlines. Be sure to check them out- www.oceanminded.com- Live, Respect and Protect!

On another note- while buying paint at Home Depot the other day for the new stores, I was introduced to a great new and completely different kind of paint called Freshaire. Its a revolution in paint that was inspired by the need to improve air quality. Its the first ever and only tinted paint to contain no VOC’s or harsh chemicals. Check out the results in the new Farias Ship Bottom location as well as across the street at the new Pine Surf Shop and Art Gallery. I highly recommend painting your next room with this paint. www.freshairechice.com

Farias Team Rider Chris Kretzer Wins CNJ ESA Masters Division

October 15 2007

Want to send out a big congratulations to Farias Surf & Sport team rider Chris Kretzer. He won the masters division this year in the Central New Jersey Division of the Eastern Surfing Association. This is a great achievement and a credit to Chris’ great surfing ability and dedication. His high level of surfing can at some level be attributed to his other passion which is quite different from surfing. Chris has been training in Muy Thai Boxing pretty seriously for over a year now. The training regimen for Muy Thai is very intense and Chris’ level of fitness is at all time high. He will be fighting in his second match this Saturday night, December 8th. Good Luck Kretz!

Check out the Anything But Three East

hess surfboards

This Sunday there will be a gathering of surfers who prefer a surfboard that gets its drive from anything but three fins. The “retro” surfboard has made a resurgence in the past couple of years. People are learning again to enjoy the surfboards that have shaped design over the past 3 decades. From the bonzer to the twin fish to the more functional quad, retro shapes are being combined with modern materials and performance standards. This has led to a rediscovery of the joy of surfing on all of the different types of boards. A true stylist should be able to surf all surfboard types in all conditions.

The Anything But Three East is a celebration of this going down Sunday in Harvey Cedars. So hopefully the ocean produces a small bump to really see how these boards can surf. Maybe I will bust out my Hess Lola Quad- www.hesssurfboards.com- and turn some heads. The Hess boards are 100% green and mold form with function. They are some of the most beautiful boards if have ever seen. I am stoked the beauty and design of these boards matches their performance. With the great waves we had early this week, I got to test her out. The Lola really is amazing. Check them out in Farias and Pine this spring if you want to see true perfection in a surfboard!
