September 25 2008

Be sure to check out the Clam Jam! It is an annual event sponsored by Jetty that is quickly growing into a much anticipated festival to celebrate the amazing surf community here on LBI. It brings everyone together for a day filled with fun, food, competition, and great waves (pray! no really we need everyone to pray) and a little debauchery added in. LBI has some some increbible surfing talent and it is all on display within a one jetty expanse in Harvey Cedars this day. Bring the family, set up camp for the day and make sure you stop by the Farias Surf & Sport and adjacent Pine Surf Shop tents. We have some suprises planned that might be considered enjoyable. Cheer on our Team Riders and friends including Chris Kretzer, Danny Mears, Dave Werner, Royce Webber, Ben Raimo, Mitchel Guadioso, as well as Mark and Brian. Should be an incredible day of surfing with a great party atmosphere. Looking forward to it!

SHOP NEWS: PINE Art Show Reception And Farias Grand Re-Opening by: tim goldstein Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

I flew back to my hometown on Long Beach Island, NJ last weekend to catch a glimpse of my sister’s new surf shop and art gallery while her “Team Riders No. 7” opening reception was in effect. Julie Goldstein and husband Mark Tesi opened PINE Surf Shop Memorial Day weekend ’08 in Ship Bottom, New Jersey.

The two surfers and artists have been traveling the globe, surfing, and making art for years and finally have somewhere to bring it all together. “A big part of surfing to us is about the experience of interacting with nature and it’s ever changing moods; That piece is very influential in everything we do,” says Tesi. “Julie and I wanted to create a place that we could not only present what we do but to also bring together the art and design all of the amazing people we have met over the years.” And that it does. PINE is an earth friendly surf shop, with products made in the USA using responsible and sustainable methods.

Meanwhile, next door neighbors and partner surf shop Farias Surf and Sport kicked off the summer with their grand re-opening as well with a live music by ‘Year Long Disaster’ and visiting pro surfers such as Jersey’s Sam Hammer and Frank Walsh as well as Reef Macintosh and Strider Wasilewski. All of this plus some PBRs and some clean chest high surf in the Atlantic made for quite an atmosphere.

Ship Bottom Store is almost completed!

October 29 2007
Ship Bottom Store

It has been a long winter and we have been super busy with finishing plans for the new store. It looks like we are a little behind schedule (which can usually be expected), but the plan to be open for Memorial Day weekend is still very much a go. And with the complex scope of this project, it is an enormous feat to have this store built in one winter. The contractors are working hard to put the finishing touches on what will be a truly beautiful surf shop! We are excited to get in there and rolling! Hopefully we will see you soon…

Do your part to keep our island beautiful…

October 15 2007

With the upcoming summer months, we haver our tiny sliver of an island invaded by the masses. They come to enjoy the beauty of this island we seem to take for granted too often. Make sure you lead by example. Show respect for our island and beaches and in return you will teach others to do the same. Pick up after yourself and others. If you are still smoking, don’t just toss your butt, put it out in an ashtray or trash can. We will eventually be swimming and surfing with those dirty butts if you don’t. If you see someone littering, don’t be disrespectful, but be sure to politely ask they take care of their trash. Always leave the beach cleaner then when you found it. A little goes a long way. We have one of the most gorgeous stretches of beach found anywhere in the world (Seriously). Let’s keep it that way!

We have a beach cleanup planned with our friends from Ocean Minded this summer in conjunction with the Southern High School senior service day. Ocean Minded is a growing sandal and environmentally conscious company from San Clemente, CA. Our good friend Gary Ward has etched out his niche in the surfing industry through his sincere concern for the environment, with special attention to our beaches and coastlines. Be sure to check them out- www.oceanminded.com- Live, Respect and Protect!

On another note- while buying paint at Home Depot the other day for the new stores, I was introduced to a great new and completely different kind of paint called Freshaire. Its a revolution in paint that was inspired by the need to improve air quality. Its the first ever and only tinted paint to contain no VOC’s or harsh chemicals. Check out the results in the new Farias Ship Bottom location as well as across the street at the new Pine Surf Shop and Art Gallery. I highly recommend painting your next room with this paint. www.freshairechice.com
